STUDIO ON FIRE
28x50 inch interior sign for Studio On Fire, a design and letterpress workspace in Minneapolis, MN. Reclaimed wood was painted and worn to an extra smooth surface with 600 grit sandpaper. Their logo was painted and worn to the same surface finish using stencils and their tag line was letter pressed into the sign using deep throat 8 inch C-clamps.
Studio On Fire prepared polymer plates for the portions of the sign to be letter pressed, and boards were glued together keeping knots positioned away from areas to be pressed.

Sign system for Minneapolis Advertising Agency, Station K & Co. Custom cut & hand painted metal sign. Hand distressing & a variety of aging techniques used to make it look antique. Vinyl cut outs used to make logo pop on office windows.
MINNESOTA ZOO
Custom exibit sign for the Minnesota Zoo, Apple Valley, Minnesota. Reclaimed lumber, steel, & bolts used in construction. Working with the zoo's exihbit designer and graphic design department; this exterior sign was drafted, revised on the computer across several rounds of proofs and then built to tie into their new Asian Wild Dog exhibit opening late December, 2011. Pattern pulled from shapes found throughout exhibit experience.
When I was younger my mom put me in art lessons & encouraged creativity. My dad would draw maps & animals with my brother and I on his giant architect paper after we'd visit the MN Zoo. Those memories led me to bring in some extra help on this project, Jaiden (5); Bennett (2).
Custom signs for Restaurant Alma, Minneapolis. Signs designed and built to complement the historically preserved building which Alma is based out of. Stain, paint, and a number of hand weathering techniques used to create a vintage feel.
Custom sign for Brasa Rotisserie, St. Paul, MN. Portable sandwich board designed and built with interchangeable slots for a variety of inserts. Inserts include, chalk board, and clear Plexiglas to hold printed materials behind or vinyl lettering on top. Several layers of paint were applied and distressed by hand to create the yellow layer with a goal of recreating the look of the plaster walls on the interior of the restaurant. Brasa's logo was painted and worn to match.
Custom signs & cart design for Minneapolis street food vendor Natedogs. Reclaimed wood from a Midwest barn was used for menu board sign to reinforce the idea of Natedog's vision for local, MN farmed meats. The natural tones of the wood harmonized with the orange color of Natedog's branding. Metal tracks to match surfaces of the cart were added to allow for interchangeable inserts made of Plexiglas. These inserts allowed for repeat offerings done with white vinyl lettering, and specials on the fly with dry erase marker.
Umbrella designed to give off classic vintage feel, catch attention and promote brand. Custom soda bottle display built to look like vintage milk bottle carrier. Metal work by Josh Sutherland.
Custom painted metal signs for Snowy Owl Baby. 1/8 Steel painted with 3 layers, edges lightly sanded to expose steel. Steel base allows for optional magnetic sign additions - updates.
URBAN BEAN COFFEE
Custom side walk sign for Urban Bean Coffee. Urban Bean wanted something outside to attract customers and to reflect the look of the coffee shop's interior. Reclaimed Douglas Fir was used for the sign to reflect the look and feel of the coffee bar. Artwork provided by Urban Bean, and painted on by Holmberg Design Co. Sign stained with decaf coffee and finished with an exterior finish.

Sign built for sponsoring golf event using 1/2 inch steel pipe & 1/2 wood painted and worn.
New interior signage system for Minneapolis based company, Rustica Bakery. The system was built to help customers quickly understand the big picture of offerings, and to be informed on featured items. Interchangeable chalk board inserts slide into wooden frames and make up cabinet doors and stand up frames set up throughout the bakery. Bread & pastry display cards hang from hooks and sit in stands to help identify products.
Interior and Exterior signage built for Minneapolis' Dogwood Coffee Co.. Reclaimed wood & metal was used for their interior signage system. Vinyl lettering was used for their main menu on glass, and adjustable chalk board menus attach with magnets to a metal frame by the register for coffee offerings that change from day to day.
To launch phase 1 of branding their cafe, Dogwood's logo was painted and weathered on a brick wall in their coffee bar. A classic "A frame" sandwich board sign was built for sidewalk and mall traffic.
